Guitar Hero: Nov 2008

This cake was done for Isaiah for his birthday. It was made as a replica of the xbox 360 Guitar Hero Wireless controller. This has to be one of the most creative cakes we've done so far!

PULL!

This one is for our dear teen friend who is a Skeet & Trap Shooter. She shoots with our First Class Skagit County Homeschool Co-op. SOOOO we made her an orange clay pidgeon... which is what they shoot! And of course, when they shoot, they yell "PULL!"

Two 8" cakes.
The one on top is basically a donut.
Marshmellow fondant sprayed orange with Rod's food coloring airbrush gun....

Swing Bat'ter Bat'ter Swing!

This particular cake was for Josiah's best friend Christian's birthday. Zindra gave me a cake airbrush from KopyKake. I love it of course!
We used a round cupcake cookie sheet for the baseball cupcakes.
The baseball was cut & shaped.
We used marshmellow fondant (tastes better than the real thing!)
Airbrushed the wood coloring on the bat.
Used brown sugar for dirt.
Fondant was cut & wrapped to give the bat handle texture.
Baseball cupcakes were given their red lines by cutting holes in a piece of plastic with a double ribbon punch, and then sprayed red with the airbrush.

Fit for a Princess!

This one is Julia's first birthday cake. I made it, Zindra decorated it. The design is out of a Wilton Cake decorating book. This cake made us both realize that we could make a cake "look" like one out of a magazine. That was a self confidence boost. This cake is also the cake where she realized that she could pipe pretty lovely things and it really would work. This cake is a farrrr cry from the Incredibles cake!

Let Me Go! - Adios!

One of my co-workers was leaving our work and going to work for a jail. I have often been requested to make the cakes for going away parties at work or birthday parties for work. This one was especially fun because it was one of the first times that we had ventured into the land of fondant. It was fun to use, but it was also a bit difficult to use. Still working on cake construction and holding cakes together....
This one was fun!

Fourth of July Cake 2006

This is our fourth of July cake! A first version of Julia's birthday cake. Julia's is done exactly like the book says... this one is "our" version of the book. After this one was made, it traveled two hours to it's destination to be eaten! So we lost a couple of the yummy blue swirls....
This cake was good for our cake decorating in the fact that Zindra really began to get the hang of decorating with a bag.
And it was fun to work in "red, white and blue".

Taking a Birthday Off

Here I am! In the realization that family and friends and especially our kids are making a really big deal out of having fun cakes done for their birthdays.... We took one off! Or, rather, I decided to have an ice cream cake from our local Big Scoop ice cream shop!
